One of my closest friends now has a boyfriend. He's not her first, but this time around, it's a little different. And don't get me wrong -- I'm happy for her... kind of.
See, this guy is two years older than us, which really isn't a problem if he's a good Christian guy and his main focus is God. Now, he says he's a Christian, but in my opinion, he doesn't live it. He cusses for one thing, and for another, he doesn't seem to be interested in long-term commitments, if you know what I mean.
I don't want to hurt her feelings -- but I want her to know that I don't feel like God wants her to be in this relationship. But then she'll snap back with the whole jealousy thing, and I really don't want to go there. Because I'm not jealous. Sure, he's an upperclassman and well, he's an upperclassman, but I don't think it's a good idea.
Picture this: a Nicholas Sparks guy rides in on a white horse (or better yet, in an old Ford pickup :) ), takes you by the hand, and tells you you're everything he's ever wanted. You spend hours upon hours on the phone, you walk down by the river holding hands, and listen to [insert your favorite band here], which you both happen to love. He eventually proposes, kisses you in the pouring rain, and you have kids three years later. And don't forget the golden retriever on the front porch. Ain't love grand ;))
Now imagine this: a cute guy asks you out on a date and he acts like Will from The Last Song. He tells you you're amazing and that he'll be the prince if you'll be the princess, that it's a love story baby just say yes. Sorry, Taylor Swift moment. Anyway, so you give him your first kiss (and quite a few more after that) and you just know you'll be together forever. I mean, he loves you, right? Six months later he gives you the whole 'it's not you, it's me' speech and you end up bawling your eyes out for days and eat 10 packs of peanut M&M's. Not a pretty picture...
If I asked you to pick which scenario you'd prefer, the first one would win by a long shot. As teenage girls, we long to be wanted; our hearts yearn for acceptance, attention, and love. But guys, well, a lot of them only have one thing on their mind. Not all of them -- that's for sure. But 95% or so.
Well, I'm really afraid that my friend's relationship is going to turn out like choice B. I mean, she's human. We're human. We want to be wanted. But if you wait for the right kind of want (did ya catch that? ;) ), your life might play out more like #1. Not as perfect, but a lot closer to it than the heartbreak sob story.
But right now, she can't see that...
"'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you,
You're gonna believe them.
And when you're fifteen, don't forget to look before you fall
I've found time can heal most anything
And you just might find who you're supposed to be.
I didn't know who I was supposed to be...
At fifteen."

Hmm. Anna, I know what you mean...it's hard to see friends go through something that you feel isn't right but can't do anything about.
Just remember, it's not your job to fix any situation or change people's hearts or minds. It's just your job to be a light for Jesus and what you believe in.
Love ya darlin'. =)
~Jenn
Wow! Really well said! I will be praying for wisdom for you AND your friend. You are such an awesome young lady:)
xxo, Jazzie
Wow. You just put all the thoughts I've been having into one post. Girls meet guys everyday and then they begin dating (or "dating") and then they break up sometime later. She's snuck out of the house with him a few times, and made out with him little more than that, but she never really got to know each him. Sure, she'll say he has a great personality, but that's not what really all matters.
Eventually, the guy will just break it off and go to the next girl, but the previous girl will bury herself in food, crying for weeks on end. She never really got to know him. But sometimes, us girls can't help being wanted.
Yes, most girls like the first scenario because then they'll get their "happily ever after", and they'll know they're wanted. But they don't realize it's so much more than that...so much more.
Okay, I need to stop rambling. That was a mini-post, dontcha think?
Really great post, Anna. Awesome :))

Awww! I'll definitely be praying for your friend. I hope that everything will turn out ok and that she realizes that this guy isn't right for her before it gets too serious...
Btw, in case you are interested, I just posted on my blog yesterday if you want to check it out!
Love ya, girl!
Oh Anna :/ What a tough situation. It's so hard to watch someone you love go down a road that you just know isn't good! Believe me, I know! I love how you worked out your scenarios though...I'm definitely a scenario number 1 girl! I'm all for waiting for the right kind of want...in fact, I insist on it! :)
Wonderful post, girly. I hope everything works out positively for your friend :/
~Lauren :)
I'm in a similar situation. One of my friends has a new boyfriend who's 3 years older than her, which like you said, isn't that bad. What's bad is I think he is taking advantage of her because she is a sweet, Christian girl. I can't tell her that though because she's very sensitive about those things, you know? At least God already has someone picked out or her:-)
Anyways, I love that song! Later on in my favorite verse, it says "Wish you could go back and tell yourself what you know now." You could interpret that different ways.
It does feel good to be wanted. But you know what? I'm going to wait. I'm going to wait for GOD to bring that godly man into my life who is just right for me and me ONLY. I'm trying not to go out and find boys, cause I believe that to be a waste of time, but wait for a boy to pursue ME, for a boy who loves God more than me. I think that setting boundaries beforehand and daydreaming about what God's perfect guy for you will be like (or what you want him to be like) is good too. I have decided not to kiss until my wedding day at the altar, not to hug or hold hands until engagement. I believe that by saving myself from giving to guys too personally (even just in what I say), I am saving myself from a lot of spiritual heartache. In my future guy, whoever he may be, I want him to really care for others (like a guy who takes time out of his day to help the old lady with her groceries or pick the little kid up on his shoulders), a guy who is not afraid to talk about God and has a heart for witnessing for Christ and sharing His love for others. I know in our heads we imagine this "perfect guy", and truly there is no human being guy out there today that IS perfect. So I'm trusting my future and my love life into the hands of the only Perfect One who has a great plan for me, Jesus Christ. ♥
Jeremiah 29:11-13
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. In those days when you call upon me, I will answer. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
this was very cool to read....very true... </3
great post anna!(:
Tough situation. It must be hard to watch your friend go down the wrong path, but sometimes you just have to leave them and let them make their own mistakes. You live and you learn. Maybe writing her a nice letter explaining your thoughts, and sign it 'a friend' would help. Good luck with everything! :)
Oh Anna, it's so true!!!! Everything you {and Taylor} said is true....and that's why I'm rather afraid to fall in love. I know God is taking care of me.....but there's always that little fear in the back of my head that says, "You're going to fall for the wrong guy."
*sighs* I'll pray for your friend, and for all the rest of us fifteen-year olds. ;)
love ya,
~Lily
